The History of Rug Making

The used of area rugs as floor coverings is almost as old as recorded history. At first, animal skins were used and subsequently coarse fabrics of ordinary weaves. Gradual improvements in weaving and designs produced the more elaborate tapestry weave. Eventually, pile fabrics were introduced; these materials consist of a strong backing of ordinary weave but with extra threads added to form a somewhat raised surface. The weaving of pile carpets developed in India before the 12th century AD and spread to the rest of the East.

The oriental rugs are usually made from pile fabrics knotted by hand, although over weaves are employed. Hand-knotted rugs or Oriental rugs were made in Europe by the Saracens of Southern Spain as early as the 13th century.

Nowadays, people often used area rugs to decorate and cover the entire floor. Area rugs are famous as floor coverings and it has a unique ability to add warmth and comfort in every room you planned to put them. When rugs are made; area rug pads would be also the perfect partner of area rugs. It protects area rugs from creases and make sure that the area rugs will stay in the place where you lay them.
