Ways to Maintain the Beauty of Area Rugs

To maintain the beauty of your rugs, you have to keep them clean in a way to protect them from damaging. Two-Thirds of the area rugs sold nowadays are placed on top of wall-to-wall carpeting. If you are planning to do this make sure you use padding that is specifically designed for carpet- to-carpet contact, besides keeping the contemporary rug from moving it also prevents color being transferred from one to the other.

Water and moths are both damaging to a wool rug, moths are only a problem if the rug is in storage. It is not a good idea to place potted plants on contemporary rugs as it may cause a hole from repeated watering. You should vacuum rugs regularly but be careful of the fringe. Vacuum in the direction of the pile, to determine the direction of the pile, brush your hand across the rug and it will feel smooth in one direction and rough in the other, you can vacuum in the direction of either rough or smooth but not across the nap. Round rugs contemporary can be treated to help with cleaning, also have your rugs professionally cleaned every 5 to 7 years. Rotating your rugs 180 degrees helps even out traffic wear, therefore extending its life. If a spill happens on the tighter weave and quality of the wool of a hand-knotted rug it will have a tendency to stay on top of the fibers, which gives you time to absorb the spill with a towel an then use club soda to finish cleaning with, then let it dry naturally by lifting the wet area up to allow for air circulation.
